Any good Black Friday deals?
« on: November 24, 2017, 01:41:02 pm »
Does anyone know of some good Black Friday deals?

Best Buy has a 2 TB portable slim usb hard drive for $69.  I snagged that one. :-)

That is a good deal, Bill. I paid about $89 for the same thing two years ago. There are lots of good SSD specials right now at Best Buy, Staples and Newegg. The Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB seems to be on sale everywhere for about $180. One of the sites I noted has a 1 TB Crucial SSD for $299. That's a great deal if you need that big a drive. I thought about it and decided that I don't really.
Ubuntu 17.10 on 2011 iMac
Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.3 on "late 2015" 5k iMac
Ubuntu 16.04 (Unity, Gnome) and Arch on Dell XPS 13 (4gb RAM, 250gb SSD)

I bought that 2 years ago for the same price.   Here are few things I'm looking at
  • Canada Computers -- Samsung 960 PRO for $264.  TP-Link USB 2.0 to Ethernet adapter for $9.99.  Seagate Baracuda 4TB for $109.99.
  • Lenovo -- ThinkPad T470p (14" FHD, i5-7300HQ, 4GB DDR4, 500GB) for $979.30.
  • Microsoft Store -- Dell XPS 13 (FHD, i5-7200U, 8GB DDR3, 128GB SSD) for $1099.  I think this is what Mike has.
  • BestBuy -- Garmin 6" GPS (68LMT) for $149.99.  Garmin 5" GPS (58LMV) for 119.99
  • Canadian Tire --  Mastercraft 7.5A Impact Wrench, 1/2-in for $48.99.  Thinking about doing my own tire changes.
I need a new GPS to replace my broken old one.  But, other things are discretionary.

    ....
I suspect that is the more recent version of the XPS 13; mine was a 2015. Also, mine only came with 4 GB RAM. On the other hand, I paid about $750 for mine (used but with warranty). But that listing is still a good deal. It was selling new for $999 from MS when I bought; it's more now because of the decline of the dollar.[/list]
